What’s the difference between Coaching, Therapy & Mentoring?

Coaching, according to ICF (International Coaching Federation) guidelines, is defined as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity, and leadership.” Coaches and Clients are peers who form an alliance to focus on present and future situations and beliefs, and take action to move forward with solutions in mind.

Therapy is more apt to view clients from a medical perspective, where the Therapist focuses on healing patients through understanding, insight, and treatment of problems from the past or present.

Mentoring is performed either formally (through a matching program) or informally, by an individual with expertise in a field, to help develop the career or performance of a mentee.

What is your Coaching Approach?

Based on my background in corporate leadership, I’ve created an integrated approach that blends my business experience with non-directive coaching to meet a broad variety of client needs for improving performance and results, and honing communication, leadership and interviewing skills.

  • First, I’ll help you identify what matters most to you by understanding your values, building a clear vision for what you want in your world, and defining a strategy to make it a reality.

  • Next, we’ll uncover what drains and energizes you so you can make healthy choices, self-manage needs, and choose empowering beliefs.

  • The ultimate goal is to strengthen the human and business skills you need to thrive, view situations with a new or rejuvenated perspective, and help you design a life you love!

What does your usual Coach/Client session framework look like?

Introduction Questionnaire (10 minutes) – You’ll fill out a webform that helps me learn about you and your goals for working with a Coach.

Complimentary Introduction Call (60 minutes) – Before we formalize our coaching relationship, we’ll talk about what’s important to you, the goals you want to accomplish and make sure we’re a good fit for each other from a Coach/Client “chemistry” perspective.

Design Meeting (60 minutes) – Once we move forward as Client and Coach, our first conversation will be to design an outline for our partnership. This includes the environment that you need to be successful, terminology you may hear me use, how we’ll incorporate accountability for the changes you want to make, and assurance that our conversations are always 100% Confidential.

Sessions – Your needs are unique. While most Clients decide to have a 3–6-month partnership that includes two 60-minute sessions per month to tackle a specific goal they have in mind, that framework isn’t set in stone. Various schedules can be created when new topics reveal themselves that Clients want to explore, and that’s okay. The coaching process is dynamic, so we’ll design the agenda and framework that allows you to follow through and accomplish your goals!
